Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

REQUIREMENTS

• Apprentices aged 16 to 18 at the start of their training are required to achieve a Level 2 in a Maths and English qualification (GCSE or equivalent) to complete their apprenticeship if they do not already hold these. 
• For those aged 19+ at the start of their training study, study can also be funded up to an approved Level 2 in English, Maths or both. However, achievement is not mandatory and employers can chose to opt out. 
• 24 months on programme and 3-month window for End Point Assessment.
• Minimum of 3 formal observations of practice captured while on programme
• ‘Off the job’ training must be provided (418 hours)
• Support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews.

  • Tools available for assessment and strategies to advance learning in specialism

ASSESSMENT METHODS

• Taught sessions every other month at Gateshead Interchange (9.30-3.30pm)

• Extra online sessions bookable to meet learner need.

   

• Online learning via Google Classroom.
• Observations of teaching.
• Professional discussions.

APPRENTICESHIP ASSESSMENT

• End Point Assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. End Point Assessment will consist of:
  
  •  Professional Discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence.
    
  • Observation of practice, followed by Q&A.
