Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

REQUIREMENTS

  • Already working in a school as a Teaching Assistant
  • Completed Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • If not working in a school, must have been accepted on placement in a school of their choice. Placement must be for one full day or two half days per week.

  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Support children and young people’s health and safety
  • Understand child and young person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people
  • Plan and deliver learning activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Support disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs.

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT METHODS

  • Taught session at Gateshead Civic Centre Headwork’s room weekly.
    Tuesdays 4.30 -6.30
  • Assessment Methods

    Written portfolio work
    Observations in the workplace.
    Witness testimonies completed by mentor.
    Professional discussions.

COSTS

  • If the learner is earning less than £25,000 the cost of the course will be covered by the government and is free to the learners. If the learner is earning more than £25,000 the cost is £2225
