Level 2 Software and Data Foundation Apprenticeship

REQUIREMENTS

  • Apprentices must normally be aged 16–21 at the start of the apprenticeship (exceptions apply in line with Department for Education funding rules). 
  • Minimum duration of 8 months.  
  • 'Off the job' training must be provided (187 hours).  
  • Support from an employment mentor with regular progress reviews.  
  • Apprentices must meet the required knowledge, skills, employability behaviours and English and Maths requirements in line with apprenticeship funding rules. 

CONTENT

  • Develop the knowledge and skills required to work with software, digital systems and data across a range of organisations and sectors.
  • Support the collection, validation, formatting, storage and retrieval of data using appropriate digital systems.
  • Follow organisational procedures to assist with software development, software testing and troubleshooting.
  • Develop an understanding of digital infrastructure, networks, software packages and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Apply cyber security, health and safety, data protection and ethical working practices within a digital environment.
  • Understand the software development lifecycle, user requirements and stakeholder needs.
  • Produce, present and maintain accurate digital documentation and data.
  • Develop professional behaviours including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and continuous professional development.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

  • Workplace and tutor progress reviews.
  • Knowledge tests set by the Assessment Organisation.
  • Practical assessments which may include:
    • Workplace observation.
    • Practical tasks or simulated activities.
    • Projects or presentations.
    • Portfolio of evidence.
  • Ongoing demonstration of employability skills and behaviours throughout the programme.

APPRENTICESHIP ASSESSMENT

Assessment takes place throughout the apprenticeship and will normally include:

  • Knowledge Test.
  • Practical Assessment demonstrating the application of software, digital systems and data skills.
  • Confirmation from the employer that employability skills and behaviours have been consistently demonstrated throughout the programme before completion.
