LEVEL 2
Level 2 Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship
REQUIREMENTS
- Apprentices aged 16 to 18 at the start of their training are required to achieve a Level 1 Maths and English qualification, with Level 2 attempted (or GCSE Grade C/4 or above) to complete their apprenticeship if they do not already hold suitable equivalent qualifications. For those aged 19+ at the start of their training, study can also be funded up to an approved Level 2 in English or Maths (or both); achievement is not mandatory, and employers may choose to opt out.
- Typical duration 18 months on programme.
- Completion of all apprenticeship knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- 'Off the job' training must be provided (396 hours).
- Support from an employment mentor with progress reviews every 4 weeks.
CONTENT
- Deliver excellent customer service to a wide range of customers using leisure facilities such as gyms, swimming pools and sports centres.
- Support the safe day-to-day operation of leisure facilities, ensuring health, safety and safeguarding procedures are followed.
- Assist with setting up, maintaining and monitoring sports, fitness and recreational activities.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and encourage participation in physical activity.
- Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues and external partners to provide a positive customer experience.
- Develop knowledge of fitness, wellbeing, inclusion and equality within the leisure industry.
- Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure they are clean, safe and fit for purpose.
- Develop teamwork, problem-solving, communication and professional behaviours required within the active leisure sector.

- Witness testimonies completed by supervisors or managers.
- Portfolio of evidence demonstrating knowledge, skills and behaviours.
APPRENTICESHIP ASSESSMENT
Apprentices must complete the following approved qualifications mandated in the standard:
- Level 3 Award in Pool Lifeguarding
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction
- Level 3 certificate in First Aid
- Level 2 in Teaching Swimming
End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependent on learner progress. The End Point Assessment consists of:

- Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence.
- Observation of Practical Activities with questioning
