Level 2 Health Care Science Assistant Apprenticeship

REQUIREMENTS

  • Apprentices aged 16 to 18 at the start of their training are required to achieve Level 1 Maths and English qualification, with Level 2 attempted or GCSEs C/4 or above to complete their apprenticeship, if they do not already hold suitable equivalent qualifications. For those aged 19+ at the start of their training study can also be funded up to an approved level 2 in English or maths or both, achievement is not mandatory and employers can choose to opt out.
  • Work within a hospital, general practice or other health setting
  • 15 months on programme and 3-month window for End Point Assessment.
  • Completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science.
  • ‘Off the job’ training must be provided (326 hours)
  • Support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews every 4 weeks.

CONTENT

  • Perform a range of routine technical and scientific procedures and services in accordance with standard operating procedures, policies and protocols.
  • Select and prepare equipment and the environment for healthcare science procedures.
  • Support the provision of clinical care delivered to individuals and maintain client confidentiality.
  • Carry out stock control of healthcare science equipment and consumables.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals.
  • Record, report and store information adhering to information governance and confidentiality requirements.
  • Support a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and secure workplace.
  • Contribute to audit, innovation or research within scope of own role.
  • Maintain and develop own competence.

  • Workplace and remote tutor meetings.
  • Independent research & Written answers.
  • Reflective Accounts.
  • Professional discussion.
  • Witness testimonies completed by mentor and service users.

APPRENTICESHIP ASSESSMENT

  • End Point Assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. End Point Assessment will consist of:

    Professional Discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence.
    Observation of practice with questions.
